Seccombe's is Celebrating 90 Years in Business!
Seccombe's Men's Shop is a full service men’s clothing
store that has been serving the Greater Naugatuck
Valley for 90 years.
Seccombe's Men's Shop was established in a small
storefront located at 52 Main Street in 1924 by Lionel
Seccombe when he was just twenty five years old.
Despite opening during the height of the Great
Depression, Lionel steadily build a loyal clientele over
the years with an old fashioned work ethic, fairly priced
quality merchandise, and an uncompromising
commitment to superior customer service.
Lionel’s son Charles entered the family business upon
his return from serving with the United States Marine
Corps in WWII. In 1952 Lionel purchased a more
spacious location at 171 Main Street in Ansonia, CT, the
present location of Seccombe's Men's Shop. Just three
years after the move, Lionel and Charles faced the
challenge of rebuilding after the Great Flood of 1955.
Most of the store's stock was lost in the flood and the
building was damaged extensively. Due to the
extraordinary resilience of the father and son team, the
business not only survived but thrived.
Charles' son, Gregg, the 3rd generation owner, has
been in the men's apparel business for over 30 years.
Through the many years of business, our Mission has
never changed. Seccombe's Men's Shop remains
commited to continuing a tradition of offering top quality
men’s clothing, fair prices, and exceptional, friendly
Our motto here at Seccombe’s is "A Woman’s Best
Accessory is a Well-Dressed Man". Though styles and
fabrics have changed through out the years our
commitment to our customers has remained the same.
In an era that can all too frequently be impersonal, we
continue to take pride in getting to know our customer's
needs, just as Lionel did all those years ago.
